The Last Gamble

The Last Gamble is a thriller in two acts, written by Bill MacIlwraith, and first published in 1990.

Peter is a solicitor aiming to make a huge profit on a real estate deal, and is willing to go to any lengths to see the plan come off. His wife is a somewhat reluctant accomplice.

The Colonel, Peter’s father, discovers his son’s plans and endeavours to thwart them, with momentous consequences.

The play has four parts, two male and two female, so is ideal for a small group, or a larger group looking to rehearse several plays at once.

It is set with two scenes, Peter’s large country cottage, and a smaller cottage next door that the Colonel inhabits. This requires a split stage and some careful lighting to work but produces a very pleasing effect when done well.

The Drama Group put this play on in early July 2009. It was a departure from the usual comedies, but was very well received.

Samuel French control the rights of the play, and the cost are very reasonable, another bonus to a small society looking to keep a tight rein on costs.
